MICT to Host Mega Hackathon Focused on Public Service Delivery

Windhoek: The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) is set to host the National Mega Hackathon in Windhoek under the theme 'Reimagining Public Service Delivery' on Wednesday. The event aims to generate innovative solutions within a short and intensive period.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus announced during a Cabinet decision briefing at the Government Information Centre that hackathons, although not new to Namibia, have been facilitated by various institutions, including public entities. Theofelus explained, "A hackathon is a collaborative event that brings together experts and skilled individuals from diverse fields, including programmers, IT technicians, innovators, and subject-matter specialists."

Theofelus emphasized that the motivation to host the hackathon aligns with the ministry's mandate to support government activities and leverage technology to address public service challenges. "As a ministry, our role is to support the entire government architecture. We wanted to create a platform that allows young people who interact with government institutions daily to contribute their ideas on how service delivery can be improved," she stated.

In addition to the hackathon, Theofelus announced that the Cabinet approved the signing of proposed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Namibia and Botswana. These agreements include cooperation in the fields of energy resources, health, employment and labour, gender equality and child protection, and education.
