Mexico to Face Portugal and Belgium in March Friendlies

Mexico city: Mexico will enhance preparations for next year’s FIFA World Cup with friendlies against Portugal and Belgium, the Mexican football federation announced on Tuesday. El Tri is set to face Portugal at the newly renovated Azteca Stadium on March 28 and Belgium in Chicago three days later.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Mexican football federation’s statement confirmed that the national team will play against Portugal and Belgium, both ranked in FIFA’s top 10, during the March 2026 FIFA window. This will be Mexico’s first match at its traditional home since the stadium closed in April last year for renovations to comply with FIFA standards. The updates include revamped dressing rooms, upgraded hospitality areas, and new seating.

Azteca Stadium, a historic venue that hosted the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals, is set to stage the opener and four other matches in the 2026 edition of football’s premier tournament.
