MEFT Addresses Payment Delays to Etotha Carnival Suppliers

WINDHOEK — Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism spokesperson Romeo Muyunda has urged the service providers of the Etotha Carnival to remain patient as the ministry works to resolve delayed payments. These delays have arisen from internal issues, and efforts are underway to expedite the process.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Muyunda made these remarks following complaints from eight catering companies about the slow payment process. The companies, which provided services at the Etotha Carnival held from June 27 to July 1, 2024, are collectively owed a total of N$100,000 each. The delay has caused significant financial strain for these caterers, leading to discontent among their employees. “Our employees are complaining that we have eaten up the money since we did not pay them their salaries since June, and this is draining us so much,” said one of the caterers.

Muyunda acknowledged the ministry’s awareness of the caterers’ frustrations and emphasized their appreciation for the patience shown. “We are aware and understand the caterers’ frustration. We appreciate the patience they have demonstrated regarding payment for the services they provided for Etotha Carnival. We have started and are in the process of paying suppliers as funds become available,” he explained. Muyunda further reassured all unpaid service providers, encouraging them to bear with the ministry as they address the issue with urgency.
