MEDIA STATEMENT: SPORTS COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON WISHES PROTEAS WELL IN THEIR OPENING NETBALL WORLD CUP MATCH AGAINST WALES

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture, Ms Beauty Dlulane, has wished South Africa well in their opening match against Wales. She said South African netball has not disappointed in their role as hosts of the tournament and the committee is satisfied with the programmes that were rolled out during the trophy tour of the Netball World Cup.

“This has to be a legacy project, as it is the first World Cup to be held on the African continent. The interest South Africans have shown is marvellous and encouraging. There can only be one conclusion, which is netball is alive in South Africa. This is vindication that women’s sports in the country is growing and attracting the right support. We are so looking forward to the Proteas beating Wales tomorrow.”

South Africa plays Wales at 17h00. The tournament starts tomorrow, with New Zealand playing Trinidad and Tobago. A number of public viewing centres will be opened throughout the country.

Ms Dlulane also wished Banyana Banyana well in their game against Argentina in their second match of the Women World 2023 Cup in New Zealand and Australia.
