Media Ministry Initiates Extensive Project to Modernize National Radio of Angola

Luanda: The Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Media (MINTIICS) launched on Friday, at the Luanda-South Broadcasting Center in Viana municipality, the expansion and modernization project of the National Radio of Angola (RNA). The event, led by the head of MINTIICS, M¡rio Oliveira, is part of actions aimed at significantly increasing the number of citizens with access to radio signals in the country.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the project's implementation plan is the most comprehensive in the history of radio broadcasting in the country, in terms of technological modernization, and thus marks the formal beginning of the expansion and strengthening of the radio signal throughout the national territory. The program includes the creation of a private Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network, guaranteeing secure and high-speed internal communications between all provinces and the real-time integration of provincial and regional stations with the central studios.

The initiative also includes a hybrid transmission system (satellite, IP, and STL), guaranteeing stability and effective coverage even in the most remote areas. With this initiative, MINTTICS reaffirms its commitment to innovation and modernization in the sector, which involves the complete digitization of studios, the continuous training of media professionals, and the enhancement of the strategic role of information in the country's development process.

The event, which marks the beginning of the activities related to the RNA expansion and modernization project, was witnessed by officials from the Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Media sectors, government members, businesspeople in the field, radio station employees, and representatives of civil society.

However, in September, President Joo Louren§o urgently ordered the renovation of the RNA station building and the improvement of working conditions for its professionals, after visiting the facilities. The Head of State made this recommendation at the end of his visit, in the presence of the sector's minister, M¡rio Oliveira, the CEO of RNA, Pedro Neto, and some members of the government.

According to the Press Center of the President of the Republic (CIPRA), the high level of degradation of this building triggered the alarm for this urgent intervention. Among the various problems that the public radio station is currently facing, the following stand out: the limited means of transport, the lack of technical equipment compatible with current challenges, the lack of renovation of the studios, and limitations in signal and access to new technologies.
