In its bid to enhance community participation in the fight against crime, the South African Police Service (SAPS) led by the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale will host a three-day engagement session with representatives of Community Policing Forum (CPF) structures from all nine provinces in Gauteng.

Community Policing Forums (CPF) are structures consisting of ordinary community members who volunteer their time and expertise to assist police in making communities safer.

The role of the CPF is to amongst others make known the needs of the community to the police and assist the police to meet those needs. They also hold police to account by monitoring the service provided by the SAPS to stations in their local policing precinct.

More than 350 CPF members from 1156 police stations across the country will come together to meet the management of the SAPS.

Other key stakeholders which include community patrollers, neighbourhood watch structures, and private security will form part of the session.

The aim of the round table discussion is to devise and identify strategies as well as resources that are required to assist CPF structures to improve relations and coordination between police stations and the communities they serve.
