MEDIA ALERT: COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT SET TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS ON CLIMATE CHANGE BILL IN FREE STATE’S FEZILE DABI DISTRICT AND CITY OF CAPE TOWN

The Portfolio Committee on Forestry, Fisheries and Environment will this coming weekend conduct two outstanding public hearings on the Climate Change Bill [B9-2022] in Fezile Dabi District in Free State and in the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality.

On Saturday, 15 July 2023, the committee will hold public hearings at the Master Nakedi Sport Centre, Parys, in Free State. In June, the committee held two public hearings in this province in Lejweleputswa District and Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality.

On Sunday, 16 July 2023, the committee will then proceed with the second, and last public hearings on the Bill at the Desmond Tutu Community Hall, Khayelitsha, in the Western Cape Province. Two public hearings were held in this province already in May this year in Central Karoo and Garden Route districts.

The Climate Change Bill [B9-2022] seeks to enable the development of an effective climate change response and a long-term, just transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy and society for South Africa in the context of sustainable development.
