MEDIA ADVISORY: PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA TO APPEAR IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow (Tuesday, 5 September), appear before the National Assembly (NA) in a hybrid plenary sitting to answer Questions for Oral Reply at 2 pm.

As stipulated in section 92(2) of the Constitution, holding regular quarterly question and answer sessions is one of the methods that Parliament uses to hold the President, the Deputy President and the Executive Cabinet Ministers to account. The President’s Questions for Oral Reply are scheduled at least once a quarter during session time within Parliament’s annual programme.

The scheduled three-hour session for questions to the President by NA Members of Parliament (MPs) cover a range of matters of national and international importance such as:

The lifestyle audits of Members of the Executive and all public representatives.

How the participation in the BRICS group assisted South Africa.

Whether the President intends to take steps to protect the courts and the judiciary and especially the Constitutional Court from attacks which go beyond reasonable criticism of judicial decisions to incitement of harm against the administration of justice.

How the President intends plans to leverage the outcomes of the Presidential Imbizos to position the Executive better to accelerate the delivery of basic services and whether the President will make a policy decision to support and expedite the devolution of passenger rail to competent metros, in light of the taxi strike of 3 August 2023 in Cape Town, etc.
