MEDIA ADVISORY: ECONOMICS CLUSTER MINISTERS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS IN THE NCOP AND NA TO CONSIDER THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE BILL

Ministers in the Economics Cluster (4C) will be in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday,13 June 2023 for oral replies to questions by the NCOP permanent delegates.

Section 92(2) of the Constitution mandates Cabinet Members to be accountable to Parliament for the exercise of powers and performance of their functions. In accordance with the Constitution, Parliament is using this opportunity to hold the Executive accountable.

Meanwhile, the NA sitting is scheduled to consider, amongst others, a Debate on an Urgent Matter of National Public Importance sponsored by Mr Brett Herron titled: “Failure of the Government to extradite persons implicated in corruption, as demonstrated by the recent case in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the consequences thereof”; the Report of the Portfolio Committee (PC) on Health on the National Health Insurance Bill; the Report of the PC on Justice and Correctional Services on amendments proposed by the NCOP on the Land Court Bill; the Report of the Standing Committee on Auditor-General on the Draft Notice Determining the Remuneration of the Auditor-General of South Africa and the Report of the PC on Communications and Digital Technologies on the Draft Notice Determining the Remuneration of Councillors of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

The House will conclude its business of the day with a debate on Youth Day to be held under the theme: “Decisive action to accelerate socio-economic opportunities to transform the lives of the youth.”
