OUAHIGOUYA: The Northern region of Burkina Faso celebrated the 64th anniversary of the nation’s independence with a ceremony led by Governor Issouf Ouédraogo, recognizing the contributions of 117 individuals and organizations. The event, held at Place de la Nation in Ouahigouya, highlighted improved security conditions and acknowledged the efforts of those serving the homeland.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the commemoration featured a troop review, a message from Governor Ouédraogo, and the awarding of medals to honorees from the provinces of Loroum, Passoré, Yatenga, and Zondoma. The governor called for individual reflection on independence and encouraged collective efforts to enhance Burkina Faso’s standing in Africa and globally. He urged resilience against adversaries and expressed gratitude to those combating terrorism.
The ceremony’s focal point was the decoration of 117 recipients, including public and private sector workers, associations, and development partners. Awards included the Ord
er of the Stallion (23), Burkinabe Merit (35), specific distinctions (28), and local authority honor medals (31). Recipients expressed pride and gratitude, with Salam Ouédraogo dedicating his medal to his family and colleagues, and Father Raoul Konseimbo of the Diocesan Communication Center expressing hope for peace in Faso.
