WINDHOEK — President Nangolo Mbumba has urged Namibians to honor the legacy of the late President Hage Geingob by upholding the values of accountability, transparency, honesty, and commitment in executing their duties. This call to action was made during Geingob’s official memorial service in Windhoek, as the nation mourns the loss of its former leader.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the best tribute to Geingob is the continuation of effective governance, a principle that the late president passionately advocated for. Mbumba emphasized that development hinges on the foundation of governance, echoing Geingob’s belief that “Without effective governance and without crucial governance fundamentals, development cannot take place.”

In his homage, Mbumba likened Geingob to a “fallen Baobab tree,” whose legacy will persist through the impacts of his policies and leadership. He highlighted the late president’s vision for Namibia, aiming for shared prosperity and economic emancipation as part of what he termed the “second struggle.”

Mbumba reiterated Geingob’s philosophy that inclusivity fosters harmony while exclusivity leads to conflict, underscoring the foundational principles for peace and unity left by Geingob. The late president’s governance, according to Mbumba, has provided Namibia with a robust framework for prosperity, emphasizing the collective responsibility to preserve and continue Geingob’s legacy.

Reflecting on Geingob’s tenure, Mbumba praised his steadfastness and resilience in facing numerous challenges, including economic hurdles, severe droughts, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these obstacles, Geingob remained committed to economic recovery, job creation, and improving living standards.

President Mbumba lauded Geingob’s contributions to peace and diplomacy, both domestically and on the international stage, acknowledging his indelible mark on Namibian leadership and governance. He concluded by celebrating Geingob’s life and leadership, describing him as a distinguished figure whose purposeful life and legacy will continue to inspire Namibians.
