MBOONI: Mbooni Member of Parliament Erastus Kevasu Nzioka has allocated Sh4.1 million from the Uwezo Fund to 28 women and youth groups within his constituency, aiming to bolster small income-generating projects. The initiative seeks to foster economic growth and alleviate poverty in the region.
According to Kenya News Agency, the funds were distributed among groups engaged in making kiondo, table banking, and running mini-shops. Each group received between Sh100,000 and Sh150,000, with the expectation that they will repay the loans on time to qualify for higher amounts in future distributions. Addressing the beneficiaries at Tawa social hall in Mbooni East Subcounty, Nzioka emphasized the importance of wise investment and timely repayment under the revolving fund scheme.
Nzioka reiterated that the Uwezo Fund, along with the Women Enterprise Fund and Youth Fund, will continue to be distributed regularly to help Mbooni residents enhance their living standards through entrepreneurship. Additionally, he urged
school principals and head teachers to refrain from organizing fund drives, known locally as harambees, to avoid placing unnecessary financial burdens on parents. Instead, he encouraged them to seek financial support from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The MP further advised school administrators with pending projects to collaborate with the NG-CDF committee for planning purposes, thereby easing the financial strain on parents responsible for paying school fees.
