Narok: Mau Mau veterans under the Mau Mau Original Trust are now calling on the political class to tone down the current political tension, fearing it is likely to fuel hostility amongst Kenyans. Speaking in Narok during their annual general meeting, the elders, led by Deputy Chairman Daniel Kamau, called on politicians to respect the office of the president despite their political differences.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Mau Mau veterans emphasized the importance of respecting current office holders, from the president to Assistant Chiefs, as a means to manage political tension. Daniel Kamau urged Gen Z to use appropriate channels to express their grievances, highlighting the importance of peaceful communication.
Additionally, a member of the Mau Mau Original Trust, Stephen Wainaina, appealed to the government to provide adequate security to their offices. This request follows a recent incident where their offices were invaded by unknown individuals. Wainaina described the attack as uncalled for and a threat to the veterans' safety.
The Mau Mau fighters also urged the government to expedite their compensation process. They seek compensation for the atrocities committed against them by British colonialists, emphasizing the need for timely justice and benefits for their suffering.
