Matala Creates Task Force to Combat Vandalism

Matala: The municipal administration of Matala, in Huíla province, created a multi-commission to intensify awareness-raising and tackle acts of vandalism of public assets. This follows the President Joo Lourenço's call for the involvement of communities and local governments in combating the destruction of public property. According to Angola Press News Agency, Artur José, the deputy municipal administrator for Political, Social and Community Affairs, stated that after consulting with officials from the MoçSmedes Railway in the municipality, whose train was vandalised a few days ago, it was acknowledged that such incidents are becoming more common in the region. He stressed that vandalism not only causes financial losses, but also directly affects the quality of life of the population, and its effect is felt in the municipality. He announced that this commission includes police authorities, local government officials, neighborhood administrators, and churches, who will initiate collective and individual mee tings to stop the wave of sabotage against public investments and promote denunciation. Located 180 kilometers east of Lubango, Matala is the second most populated municipality in Huíla, after the provincial capital, with 233,399 inhabitants, according to the 2024 Census.
