MAHABAD – Massoud Pezeshkian, a seasoned politician and trained heart surgeon, has been declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election in Iran, securing the presidency with over 16 million votes.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Pezeshkian’s political career includes multiple terms as a deputy and vice-president of the Islamic Assembly, as well as serving as the Minister of Health from 2001 to 2005. Born in 1954 in Mahabad, northwest of Iran, he has been a prominent figure in Iranian politics for decades. Pezeshkian, who ran on the campaign slogan “For Iran,” has pledged to focus on achieving justice, unity, and cohesion within Iranian society. This election marks his successful third attempt at the presidency, after withdrawing in previous years to support other candidates.
