Katima mulilo: B2Gold Namibia has pledged 40 computers valued at N.dollars 250,000 to Masokotwani Combined School in the Zambezi Region. This initiative was officially announced on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the donation was facilitated by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sankwasa James Sankwasa. The Zambezi Education Deputy Director, Norah Munembo, highlighted Sankwasa's history of personally donating to rural schools in need within the region.
During the event, B2Gold Namibia's Social Corporate Investment Manager, Ignatius |Awaseb, explained that the company decided to invest in the school after conducting an assessment following a request. He emphasized the importance of education in the era of information and communication technology (ICT).
"When we look at you, especially the learners, we see gold. We see something precious for this country, something that must be processed." |Awaseb stated. He urged learners and teachers to be responsible and become 'game changers' in education, aiming to develop innovations and solutions for their community.
|Awaseb also mentioned plans for an educational tour for some learners to the Otjikoto Nature Reserve. Munembo expressed gratitude to Sankwasa for facilitating the donation, noting the necessity of access to technology in education today.
"This donation will open doors for our learners, enabling them to explore, learn and connect with the world beyond the classroom. It will enhance teaching and learning, improve research and digital literacy, and prepare learners for the demands of the modern world," Munembo said.
She added that the computers will enrich lessons at the school, foster creativity and innovation, and help bridge the ICT gap, preserving resources for future generations.
The event was attended by Sankwasa, Otavi Mayor Pastor Isaac Hoaeb, Induna Mathews Mathe, and several school board members. Under the leadership of Principal Mathews Lichaba, Masokotwani Combined School accommodates Grades 0 to 11, with 1,377 learners and 72 staff members. The school has also benefited from a Chinese government donation, which facilitated its expansion, including new facilities that will be officially inaugurated in 2024.
