Mariental Polling Stations Quiet by Mid Afternoon

Mariental: Polling stations in Mariental were quiet by mid-afternoon on Wednesday, with only a few voters arriving at a time during the ongoing regional council and local authorities elections. Presiding officer Makena Charmaine Katzao, stationed at Sonop Primary School, told Nampa that activity slowed down after the early morning turnout. "When the gates opened this morning, people came and voted. Now we see one person every 30 minutes or so," she said.

According to Namibia Press Agency, a visit to several polling stations in the town showed a similar situation, with empty queues and voters arriving individually before leaving soon after casting their ballots. Polling stations will remain open until 21h00, and anyone still in the queue at closing time will be allowed to vote, as per the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) regulations.

The Hardap Region is voting in eight constituencies of Aranos, Daweb, Gibeon, Kalkrand, Maltah¶he, Mariental Rural, Mariental Urban, and Rehoboth Rural. Earlier in the day, returning officers across the region reported steady activity at most polling points. Voting continues throughout the afternoon and evening.
