Mariam Ouédraogo to Receive 2023 ICFJ Knight Prize in Washington

Ouagadougou, Mariam Ouédraogo, a reporter for public daily Sidwaya, is in Washington, D.C., to receive the 2023 ICFJ Knight International Journalism Prize.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ouédraogo stated that preparations for the award ceremony are underway and she is currently rehearsing her speech. She has been recognized for her reporting on women who are victims of terrorism. In addition to a trophy, Ouédraogo will receive an envelope during the ceremony scheduled for November 2.

Upon arriving in the United States, she attended a welcome dinner hosted by the International Journalism Center. During the dinner, she met Jean Baptiste Gagré, the interim ambassador of Burkina Faso to the United States, and other embassy staff. The embassy has expressed its support for Ouédraogo until the award ceremony.
