Luanda: The MPLA party praised on Thursday (11), in Luanda, the political, diplomatic, and party legacy of Manuel Domingos Augusto, stating that the former minister of Foreign Affairs will be associated with the most relevant pages of Angola's contemporary history. The ruling party's message of condolence was read by the secretary of the Political Bureau for State Reform, Public Administration, and Local Authorities, M¡rio Pinto de Andrade, during the funeral ceremonies held at the Army General Staff Headquarters (former RI-20), in the presence of the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, family members, members of the Executive, deputies, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
According to Angola Press News Agency, MPLA states that the death of Manuel Domingos Augusto constitutes a loss for Angola, for national diplomacy, and for all those who view politics as a service for the common good. Manuel Domingos Augusto belonged to the generation of Angolans who took on the construction of an independent Angola as a life mission, placing his intelligence, experience and work capacity at the service of national causes from an early age.
Throughout more than four decades of activity, he held responsibilities in the media, public administration, diplomacy, and political leadership, distinguishing himself by his high sense of mission, discipline, and commitment to the interests of the Angolan State. The MPLA recalled that the deceased's career culminated in his service as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee for International Relations, a responsibility he held until the last days of his life.
The political party stated that the scope of his work transcends the positions he held and highlighted his contribution to consolidating Angola's presence and credibility in the international arena. In a period marked by deep political and geopolitical transformations, Manuel Domingos Augusto contributed to strengthening the country's relations of friendship and cooperation and to affirming the principles of peace, dialogue, and state sovereignty.
It also highlighted the role played by the former leader in strengthening relations with friendly parties and in projecting the image of the MPLA and Angola in international forums, particularly his role as Deputy-Chair of the Africa - Socialist International. The party also evoked the human qualities of the deceased and described him as a leader of simple and cordial manners, a defender of dialogue, consensus, and a sense of collective responsibility.
In the message read by M¡rio Pinto de Andrade, the party stated that Manuel Domingos Augusto will remain in the memory of the MPLA, in the history of Angola and in the hearts of the Angolan people. Manuel Domingos Augusto's remains will be buried on Thursday (11) at the Alto das Cruzes Cemetery in Luanda.
