Mandera County Allocates 460 Million Shillings for Student Bursaries

Mandera, Kenya - the County government has announced the allocation of 460 million shillings to support the education of 37,015 students in 61 public secondary schools. This funding marks the second phase of the bursary program aimed at addressing the financial challenges faced by families in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative underscores the government's dedication to youth empowerment and the overall development of Mandera County. Governor Khalif emphasized the importance of education in fostering county prosperity and assured that no student would be denied education due to financial constraints.

Issack Abdullahi, Principal of Mandera Teachers Training Institute, highlighted the timely nature of this support amidst the economic difficulties faced by many families in the county. He further encouraged students benefiting from the bursary to pursue teaching careers, contributing to the resolution of the teacher shortage in Mandera. The county is currently in need of an additional 527 secondary teachers and 682 primary teachers to meet its educational requirements.
