Man Injured in Hit and Run, Several Arrested in Windhoek Weekend Crimes

Windhoek: A 32-year-old man was seriously injured when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle in Otjomuise, Windhoek early Saturday morning, one of several crimes reported in the Khomas Region over the weekend.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the weekend crime report issued by Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi of the Namibian Police Force indicates that the incident occurred around 03h55 in Mersin Street. It is alleged the suspect argued with the victim before using his vehicle to hit him, then reversed and drove away. 'The victim sustained fractures to both legs and was admitted to hospital. No arrest has been made yet,' Shikwambi said, adding that investigations are continuing.

In another case, two men were arrested at the Windhoek-Okahandja checkpoint at midnight on Friday after police discovered 1 935 grams of cannabis concealed in sugar and flour bags. The drugs are valued at N.dollars 96 750. 'The suspects, aged 22 and 41, are expected to appear in the Wanaheda Magistrate's Court soon,' Shikwambi confirmed.

In Klein Windhoek, two separate incidents were reported on Friday and Saturday. In the first, a robbery victim was assaulted and robbed of property worth N.dollars 19 650, including a laptop and cellphone. No arrests were made. In the second, the suspect smashed a Samsung Galaxy A32 cellphone valued at N.dollars 8 000 during an argument and was arrested for malicious damage to property.

Police also recorded a case of theft from a motor vehicle at a caf© in Eros Friday morning, where a spare tyre valued at N.dollars 8 000 was stolen from a vehicle. The suspects remain at large.

Shikwambi reminded the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, especially during late-night hours and at entertainment spots. 'NamPol will continue with visible patrols and targeted operations to curb weekend criminal activities in the Khomas Region,' she said.
