Man Found Murdered in Walvis Bay, Namibia


Walvis Bay, Namibia – A 53-year-old man was reportedly raped and murdered in Walvis Bay, Erongo region, on Saturday. This tragic incident has shaken the local community and prompted an ongoing investigation by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol).



According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the crime occurred between 23:00 on Friday and 12:00 on Saturday at Banker Close Street. The deceased, identified as Vernon John Gavin, lived alone and was discovered by a neighbor in his shower. He was found motionless with his legs tied up with curtain blinds and ropes, and a face cloth stuffed in his mouth. There were no open wounds on Gavin’s body.



Further investigation revealed that various items, including a 50 cm plasma Samsung television, an Acer laptop, black Dakotas shoes, and a telecom Fritz motor, were packed into Gavin’s Opel Corsa pickup, which was parked in his locked garage. Despite the findings, no arrests have been made in connection with this case.



In a separate incident in the Kunene region, a year and 10-month-old baby named Future Tjiavairara was reportedly murdered by his mother’s boyfriend at Omireko village. The 22-year-old suspect allegedly took the child from other children, hid him at his home, and proceeded to strangle, bite his neck, and hit him with a stone on the head. The baby’s body was hidden in a traditional hut. The suspect later surrendered to the police in Opuwo.



Namibian Police continue to investigate both matters.
