Man Drowns in Fish Pond in South Nyakach

Kisumu: A tragic incident occurred in South Nyakach, Kisumu County, where a middle-aged man drowned in a fish pond during a fishing expedition. The accident happened on Tuesday evening when the man, accompanied by two others, slipped and fell into the pond.

According to Kenya News Agency, Eyewitnesses reported that the man struggled in the water, but his companions, who were intoxicated, were unable to assist him. A rescue team, mobilized by Upper Nyakach Division Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Dawin Orina and Ogoro Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Barchok, arrived at the scene and retrieved the body. The body was subsequently moved to Nyabondo Mission Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

ACC Dawin Orina extended condolences to the family and called for public calm as the investigations proceed. He also issued a warning to the public against venturing into fish ponds and other water bodies during the rainy season, to prevent similar tragedies.
