Man Drowns at Long Beach, Inmates Escape in Rehoboth

Walvis Bay – A 44-year-old man, Peter Schneider, reportedly drowned at Long Beach near Walvis Bay. The incident occurred on Friday while Schneider was swimming with a companion around 10:15. His body was later retrieved by Navy divers and the police, with investigations currently underway.

According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), In a separate incident in the Hardap Region, six trial-awaiting inmates escaped from lawful custody in Rehoboth on Saturday night. The escapees, aged between 16 and 34, were awaiting trial for various offenses, including drug possession, theft, and stock theft. The Namibian Police Force is investigating the circumstances surrounding their escape.

Additionally, in Dorado Park, Windhoek, a 63-year-old man, Benjamin Petrus, was found dead in an apparent suicide. His body was discovered hanging from the roof at his residence’s braai area on Sunday morning. No suicide note was found, and an inquest has been initiated by the police.
