OSHETU VILLAGE, OSHIKOTO REGION – A 39-year-old man was taken into custody in Oshetu village, Oshikoto Region, following the fatal stabbing of his 35-year-old girlfriend with a kitchen knife. The incident occurred at approximately 17:00 on Sunday at the Oshifukwa cucashops.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force's crime investigations coordinator for the region, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, reported on Monday that the altercation took place while the victim, identified as Martha Aron from Onambundu village, was at a hair salon. Following an 11-month romantic relationship, Aron had recently ended the relationship, prompting the suspect to seek a conversation to potentially reconcile. However, Aron refused to engage, leading to the suspect retrieving a kitchen knife from his vehicle and stabbing her four times in the neck, back, and chest. Aron died instantly at the scene.
Following the attack, the suspect fled and hid but was later apprehended at Onalunike in Oshetu village. Aron's body was transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted. Her family has been notified of her death.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder, which has been formally categorized as a case of murder in conjunction with domestic violence.
