Katima mulilo: A 26-year-old man is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was arrested and charged with the rape of a two-year-old girl. The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in an incident report said the incident allegedly occurred in the Makanga area of the Linyanti Constituency on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the man’s name is being withheld pending his court appearance. The relationship between the minor and the accused had not been established by the time of publication.
The police are also investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal incident on the B8 road between Ngoma and Katima Mulilo. The event occurred at approximately 23h00 on Wednesday. According to the incident report, a 37-year-old woman died instantly after allegedly jumping from a moving Toyota Hilux pick-up. The deceased had been discharged from the Katima Mulilo State Hospital earlier that day and was being transported to Kapepiso village when she reportedly threw her health passport from the vehicle near Bukalo. Shortly after, she allegedly jumped from the moving pick-up.
At the time of the incident, the deceased was traveling in the back of the pick-up with the driver’s wife. The driver, a 48-year-old man, was found to be sober and in possession of a valid driver’s licence. While he has not been arrested, NamPol confirms that the investigation is active and currently at an advanced stage. The body of the deceased has been transported to the Katima Mulilo District Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy. Officials noted that the next of kin have not yet been formally notified of the woman’s passing.
