Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of Minor in Oshikoto Region

Oshikoto: A 13-year-old girl with learning disabilities and hearing impairments was allegedly raped by a 55-year-old man at Iikekele village in the Oshikoto Region on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the region's crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, reported that the incident occurred around 17h00. A case of rape has been opened against the suspect, who also has hearing impairments.

"The girl was home alone while her siblings and other family members were in the mahangu field. He allegedly took her to one of the rooms where he had sexual intercourse with her under coercive circumstances," Ekandjo stated.

The situation came to light when the girl's sister returned home and reportedly found the suspect dressing. She went on to inform their mother about the incident.

"It was observed that the victim had blood stains, and both were taken to the hospital for medical examinations," Ekandjo added.

The suspect, who is from a neighboring village, is scheduled to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Police investigations are ongoing.
