Man Arraigned in Kabarnet Court for Alleged Defilement of 15-Year-Old Girl

Kabarnet: A middle-aged man has been arraigned before a Kabarnet court accused of defiling a 15-year-old girl. It is alleged that Benjamin Koima willingly and unlawfully defiled the girl on January 7, 2025, at Kapsoiyo area of Baringo Central Sub County in contravention of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006.

According to Kenya News Agency, the accused appeared before Principal Magistrate Caroline Ateya and pleaded not guilty to charges of defilement, which is contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006. The magistrate ordered that the suspect may be released on a personal bond of Sh100,000 with one surety of the same amount.

The father of the accused, William Koima Roriema, pleaded with the magistrate to allow him to stand as his son’s surety and also pay the bond as ordered by the court. He informed the court that he understood his duties as a surety and was ready to face the consequences in events of default.

In her ruling, the magistrate approved the surety and the bond and directed the case to be mentioned on March 3rd.
