Bamako: Facing the rise of fake news and fabricated information, the National Press Agency of Mali has embarked on a multi-day effort in Bamako to reestablish itself as a primary source of credible and reliable information. The initiative, which began on Monday, aims to reposition the agency as a key player in the media landscape.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Relaunch Days are being conducted under the theme "For accessible, credible and sovereign information." The goal is to reposition the agency and encourage collective reflection on its future as well as the future of public media. Mali's Minister of Communications, Alhamdou Ag Ilyene, emphasized the importance of adapting to the changing times while maintaining the agency's role as a wholesaler of information. He stated that information is now a valuable commodity and the agency must adapt to remain relevant in the current media ecosystem.

The relaunch effort, spearheaded by the Malian Press and Advertising Agency (AMAP), is considered a crucial step in the agency's evolution. Minister Ag Ilyene expressed his support, noting that the initiative is part of a strategic vision to reposition AMAP through the National Press Agency. He highlighted the agency's historical significance and the necessity of its adaptation to modern demands.

AMAP Director General Alassane Souleymane reiterated the agency's role as a benchmark tool for the state, emphasizing the need for its modernization. Minister Ag Ilyene also pointed to the Malian Radio and Television Office (ORTM) and the National Agency for Communication for Development (ANCD) as strategic state instruments that must be strengthened and modernized to meet citizens' expectations and ensure equitable access to reliable information.

The Malian government has committed to enhancing the working conditions of press actors, strengthening their capacities, and ensuring their safety. The dense program of recovery days includes discussion panels on media sector issues and a round table on scientific objectives. Minister Ag Ilyene expressed confidence that these efforts would yield concrete recommendations, a shared commitment, and an ambitious roadmap for the National Press Agency's future.
