Barsalogho, Burkina Faso — In the wake of a devastating attack in Barsalogho, Burkina Faso, Malian President Colonel Assimi Goïta has extended heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the people and government of Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, President Goïta expressed “deep compassion and full solidarity” with his counterpart, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and the victims of the Saturday attack. The assault by terrorists in north-central Burkina saw indiscriminate firing on civilians and soldiers during a community gathering, resulting in several deaths and numerous injuries. The Malian leader condemned the attackers, whom he described as “hordes of terrorists in the service of foreign sponsors,” and offered his sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
In his message, Colonel Goïta also wished a quick recovery to the injured and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who perished. He reaffirmed Mali’s commitment to the fight against terrorism within the framework of the Confederation of Sahel States, aiming to promote peace, stability, and development in the region.
“Despite the harsh trials of the moment, nothing will be able to undermine our firm will and our determination to continue the common fight,” concluded President Goïta.
