Under-17 Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup-winning coach, Paul ‘Shakes’ Malembu, has been hired as the head coach of Rundu Chiefs for a second time.

Malembu previously coached Rundu Chiefs for three months in the 2017/18 Premier League before resigning from his position. He has now signed a one-year performance-based contract with the team.

Malembu told Nampa in an interview on Monday his goal is to help the team qualify for Namibia’s elite league.

‘Rundu Chiefs is currently in a rebuilding phase and I have been brought in to help them achieve their goals,’ he said.

Malembu noted that coaching a team with a rich history like Rundu Chiefs puts pressure on any coach to deliver results.

‘They want results and if I wanted to be in a football structure for a long time without any pressure then I would have continued being at the youth level where I do development, but coaching a big team means you have targets that need to be achieved,’ Malembu said.

Although he is excited ab
out the opportunity to lead the team, he understands that he will be held accountable for their performance. Malembu is however determined to do his best to put Rundu Chiefs back where they used to be, and he is confident that he can achieve this goal.

‘I took over the reins of the team over the weekend with a one-all draw against Julinho Sporting, but the results from that match mean nothing now as what matters is whether we will be able to deliver and achieve our goals when the season starts,’ he said.
