KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, praised Ethiopia’s significant economic growth and achievements, highlighting the nation’s rising status as a crucial partner in Africa. The commendation came as Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed concluded his two-day official visit to Malaysia.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Malaysia’s Premier, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, emphasized Ethiopia’s role in promoting African unity and expressed Malaysia’s interest in learning from Ethiopia’s experiences. He noted Ethiopia’s advancements in economic reforms, governance, and anti-corruption initiatives. Prime Minister Abiy shared that both nations agreed to deepen collaboration in agriculture, industry, mining, trade, and investment.
Ethiopia’s recent reforms include the liberalization of the telecom and financial sectors and opening trade and logistics for foreign investors. These changes aim to make Ethiopia a business-friendly nation, attracting both d
omestic and international investments. Prime Minister Abiy invited Malaysian businesses to explore opportunities in Ethiopia, underscoring the country’s rapid economic growth.
Both leaders reaffirmed their countries’ longstanding diplomatic ties, spanning over half a century, and explored ways to enhance cooperation. They discussed bolstering bilateral relations through private sector engagement and tourism, and Abiy expressed interest in learning from Malaysia about modernizing cities and infrastructure development. The Ethiopian government is committed to supporting Malaysian investors and facilitating their market entry.
In private discussions, the two Prime Ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the strong ties between their nations and exploring avenues to expand their partnership.
