Malaria Cases See Significant Decline in Mbanza Kongo

Mbanza kongo: Health authorities in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, located in Zaire province, have reported a notable decrease in malaria cases from January to December 2025. A total of 94,373 cases were recorded, marking a reduction of 8,001 cases compared to the same period in the previous year. According to Angola Press News Agency, Kanza Kiangebeni, the director of the municipal health department, stated on Monday that the disease resulted in 52 deaths, with a higher prevalence among children under five. Among the total malaria cases, 29,865 affected children, arising from 452,136 consultations conducted across various health units in the region. Kiangebeni highlighted that in 2024, there were 102,374 diagnosed cases of malaria from 451,113 consultations, leading to 34 fatalities, 23 of whom were children. He attributed the reduction in malaria cases to effective awareness campaigns conducted by local health authorities and the widespread distribution of insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets. The mu nicipality of Mbanza Kongo, with an estimated population of over 200,000, is comprised of five communes: Madimba, Nkiende, Kalambata, Kaluka, and Sede.
