Makueni Launches 16 Days of Anti-GBV Campaign


MAKUENI, Kenya – Makueni High Court Judge Teresia Matheka, alongside local stakeholders, has launched a 16-day campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Makueni County. The event, themed ‘Unite, Invest to Prevent Violence Against Men, Women, and Children’, took place at the Makueni Governor’s office in Wote.



According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative aims to unite various partners and community members to combat GBV in the region. Emphasizing the importance of collective action, Matheka highlighted the need for awareness and prevention measures in society. Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili also voiced the county’s commitment to eradicating GBV among all community members.



The campaign, which involves the Gender Sector Working Group and local officials like Douglas Mukanda, Makueni County Gender Director, will include public sensitization in Wote town and Kathonzweni market. Activities are planned to spread anti-GBV messages in churches and encourage reporting of cases to authorities. The team also plans a public event at Kavete Chief Camp near Makindu as part of the awareness drive.
