MAKUENI – In a significant move to improve healthcare services, the Makueni County government has installed new X-ray machines in five local health facilities, announced Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. This initiative aims to enhance diagnostic capabilities and reduce the need for patient referrals to other hospitals.
According to Kenya News Agency, the new X-ray machines have been set up at health facilities across Sultan Hamud, Mbooni, Tawa, Kilungu, and Kibwezi subcounty hospitals. “The installed X-rays will ensure proper diagnosis of diseases the patients are suffering from, and there will be no more referrals to other hospitals,” stated Mutula during the inauguration of a maternity ward at Sultan Hamud Hospital on Thursday.
Further expanding on future healthcare improvements, the Governor disclosed plans to equip Matiliku Health Centre in Nzaui Sub County with an X-ray machine in the next fiscal year. Additionally, an advanced artificial intelligence-based X-ray machine is slated for installation at the Makueni County Referral Hospital.
Beyond healthcare, Governor Mutula also highlighted the county government’s commitment to infrastructure development, revealing the completion of a borehole in Muatinini village. This new water source is expected to serve the hospital and surrounding schools, significantly improving water accessibility in the area.
On the topic of youth and community development, the Governor announced plans for the construction of an artificially turfed stadium at Sultan Hamud, in collaboration with the Konza Institute of Commercial Management. This project is designed to promote the talents of local youths and support sports development in the county.
These enhancements in healthcare and community infrastructure reflect Makueni County’s broader goals of improving resident wellbeing and supporting local youth in achieving their potential.
