Makueni County Calls for Unified Action in Climate Change Adaptation Efforts

Makueni County – A call for strengthened collaboration among environmental stakeholders was made in Makueni County, emphasizing the imperative to optimize resource utilization and eliminate redundant efforts in addressing climate change issues.

According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke at a one-day forum on Tuesday, it is crucial for the myriad of organizations involved in climate change mitigation, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Civil Societies, Academia, and state agencies, to align their efforts. She underscored the need for these entities to communicate their locations and activities clearly, enabling the government to orchestrate a cohesive and efficient response to environmental challenges.

Held in Wote town, the forum saw Mulili officially open the gathering, where she stressed the importance of educating the local community, Wananchi, on adaptive strategies to cope with the tangible effects of climate change. “Climate change is here with us. I appeal to the different organisations who are here this morning to help our people adapt to climate change for their benefit,” Mulili articulated.

The event, coordinated by the Department of Lands, Urban Planning, and Development, Environment, through the Climate Change Fund, aimed to foster collaboration among different stakeholders and devise comprehensive strategies for coordinated climate change adaptation within the county. Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Dr. Sonia Nzilani, Executive Committee Member (ECM) of the Department of Lands, Chief Officer Japheth Kiminza, board members of the Climate Fund, and other officers from the national government.
