Passor©: The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources of Passor© has announced a significant agricultural development in the Dourou irrigated area, projecting an annual production of 3,600 tonnes of rice during the 2024-2025 wet season. Additionally, more than 17,600 tonnes of tomatoes and onions are expected in the dry season. This announcement was made during the second ordinary session of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) of Passor© on December 20, 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Odile Bonou, a representative of the Provincial Directorate, detailed that 1,352 plots of land, each ranging from 0.33 to 0.50 hectares, have been provisionally allocated to local producers for the upcoming wet season. Of the 865 hectares developed, 447.39 hectares have already been sown with corn, cowpea, and rice.

Mrs. Bonou also highlighted plans for the dry agricultural season, stating that over 100 hectares will be dedicated to onion production, extending until January 2025. The initiative is part of a broader agropastoral and fishing offensive in Passor©, which includes constructing 15 onion canneries, each with a 20-tonne capacity, five storage warehouses of 250 tonnes each, and five drying areas distributed among the villages of Dourou, Kals©, Tampouy, Sib©ga, and Yalou.

The development also features the installation of five autonomous water stations. This initiative is a component of a presidential agro-pastoral and fishing offensive officially launched by the Minister in charge of Agriculture, Commander Isma«l Sombi©, on December 7, 2023. The project is estimated to cost 17,502,666,158 FCFA and is set to be completed over 18 months, excluding the winter season.
