Beijing: A Chinese mainland spokesperson stated on Wednesday that the mainland firmly opposes any form of military contacts between the United States and Taiwan.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made these remarks in reaction to media reports suggesting that over 500 Taiwan soldiers participated in this year's U.S. Northern Strike military exercises. The exercises notably altered their focus this year, transitioning simulated combat scenarios from Europe to the so-called "Indo-Pacific region."
Zhu Fenglian urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques. She emphasized the need for the U.S. to exercise extreme caution in handling the Taiwan question and to cease sending erroneous signals to the separatist forces advocating for "Taiwan independence."
Zhu further criticized the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan for attempting to rely on foreign forces to pursue "Taiwan independence" and for using weaponry as a means to deny reunification. She warned that such actions are an overestimation of their capabilities and will ultimately lead to their own downfall.
