Magerman Calls for Introspection

Lderitz: Kharas Region Director of Education, Arts and Culture, Jesmine Magerman, highlighted the urgent need for principals to reflect on their teaching strategies following the region's poor performance in the 2024 national examination results. Speaking at the annual principal meeting held in Lderitz on Wednesday, Magerman emphasized the importance of identifying issues in lower grades that hinder students' ability to master higher grade syllabuses.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the ||Kharas region experienced a significant drop in the Namibia senior secondary certificate ordinary level results, falling from third to eleventh place. Additionally, the region slipped from eleventh to twelfth place in the advanced subsidiary level results. Magerman urged primary school principals to scrutinize the preparation of learners for junior and senior secondary phases, particularly in mathematics, geography, and history.

Magerman stressed the importance of placing teachers in positions that match their qualifications to enhance the quality of education. She expressed concern over absenteeism among teachers, noting that it adversely affects the ability of present teachers to conduct effective teaching, as they are often burdened with covering for absent colleagues.

Furthermore, Magerman urged parents to play an active role in motivating and supporting their children's education. She observed that learners whose parents closely monitor their academic progress tend to perform better in school.
