Machakos High Court Set to Deliver Ruling on Mavoko Demolition

Machakos:Today at 4 pm, the Machakos Environment and Lands High Court is anticipated to deliver its ruling concerning an interparty hearing. The application, filed by Aimi ma Lukenya Society, seeks to acquire injunction orders to halt the ongoing evictions and demolitions at the East Africa Portland Cement Company land located in Mavoko, Machakos County.

The Kenya News Agency revealed that the society, through its legal representation, lodged an application for the orders on Monday. They were, however, directed by the court to present themselves before Lady Justice Annette Nyukuri this morning for the ruling now set for later today.

Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper party, via his law firm, made a move for a fresh suit in the court on Monday, seeking interim orders. These were not granted, and the firm was instructed to serve the application to other involved parties and return for the interparty hearing this morning.

Furthermore, the County Government of Machakos has filed a request to join as interested parties in this case. This particular application will be addressed post the ruling. Last Friday, demolitions commenced in full swing after the high court on Monday 9th recognized the cement company as the rightful owner of the 4,298 acres of land. This action resulted in properties worth significant amounts being destroyed, with hundreds of families rendered homeless.
