Machakos—Governor Wavinya Ndeti has opened a fully equipped Level-3 community hospital at Kyumbi, located along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway. The facility aims to improve healthcare for the local residents and alleviate congestion in Level-5 hospitals.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, the hospital has been strategically placed along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway to provide timely medical assistance in an area frequently plagued by road accidents. The facility was developed in partnership with Purple Dot International Limited, a property development company with residential projects in Kyumbi. Governor Ndeti highlighted the significance of public-private partnerships in achieving county objectives, stating, “This achievement is a result of collective vision and commitment from our donor partners, the Purple Dot.”

The Governor also called upon other potential donors to collaborate on projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of Machakos residents. She reiterated the county government’s obligation to maintain the facility and safeguard it from theft of medical supplies to ensure its continued benefit to the community and future generations.

The new hospital is part of a larger healthcare expansion plan in Machakos County. Governor Ndeti confirmed that Kyumbi Level-3 is one of several new healthcare facilities that have been constructed, with plans for more in the future. Alongside the Community Health Promoter Programme launched last week, these hospitals aim to reduce the distance residents must travel to access medical services.

The Kyumbi Level-3 hospital comes with a range of services, including mother-and-child units, a theatre, a paediatric laboratory, an X-ray room, special clinics, an outpatient unit, and a nursing station.
