Luanda: Luanda is set to host an Angola-Rwanda-DRC Tripartite Summit on the 15th of this month, as part of the ongoing efforts to find a lasting solution to the armed conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The initiative is spearheaded by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, who was appointed as Mediator by the African Union.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Summit will see the participation of Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in addition to the host Head of State. This meeting comes on the heels of a recent approval in Luanda of a document known as the Concept of Operations (CONOP). This instrument will serve as a guide for implementing the Harmonized Plan for the Neutralization of the FDLR.

The CONOP document was approved during the sixth ministerial meeting on the peace process in eastern DRC, which was mediated by Angola. It aims to facilitate the Disengagement of Forces and the Lifting of Rwanda’s defense measur
es. The meeting was attended by high-profile delegations led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie of the DRC, Therese Wagner; the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, Olivier Nduhungirehe; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, TĂ©te AntĂłnio.

During their discussions, the ministers emphasized the urgency of continuing negotiations on the remaining aspects of the draft Agreement. This draft was submitted to the involved Parties by Angolan President João Lourenço in August this year. The summit underscores the ongoing commitment to regional stability and peace in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
