L©raba: An advocacy workshop was chaired by the High Commissioner of the province, Yacouba Sawadogo, to initiate a mass treatment campaign against schistosomiasis. The event took place on Friday, May 2, 2025, with the involvement of various provincial authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop was organized by the health district of Sindou as part of the broader fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), specifically targeting schistosomiasis in L©raba. The campaign is scheduled to run from Monday, May 5 to Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Participants of the workshop were briefed on NTDs and schistosomiasis, with an emphasis on the local context. Over 62,000 children aged 5 to 14 in L©raba are expected to receive treatment during this campaign.
The campaign, organized by the Ministry of Health, spans 12 health regions across the nation, excluding the South-Central region. Praziquantel will be administered free of charge to the targeted children.
The District Medical Officer of Sindou, Lamine Ouattara, expressed a goal of achieving 100% success without incidents. Ouattara highlighted the reality of NTDs in L©raba, noting several suspected cases under treatment, including three suspected schistosomiasis cases reported since January.
High Commissioner Yacouba Sawadogo urged the involvement of provincial directors and community leaders to mobilize their communities effectively, aiming to meet the campaign’s objectives.
