L©raba: The mining company Wahgnion Gold Operations (WGO) collected 597 units of blood during the fifth edition of its annual blood donation campaign, held from July 27 to 31, 2026, at its site. This represents an increase of 41 units compared to the previous edition.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign, which was placed under the theme "All united by blood donation," was organized with the support of the blood bank unit of the Regional Hospital Centre (CHR) of Banfora. Organizers noted that the mobilization demonstrates WGO's commitment to improving healthcare services in the Tannounyan region.
Launched in 2022, the campaign has experienced a steady increase in donations. Statistics released by the company indicate 172 bags collected in 2022, 366 in 2023, 503 in 2024, 556 in 2025, and 597 in 2026.
The head of the collection mission, Zouli Zongo, a nurse at the Banfora Regional Hospital and president of the Burkinabe Association for Health and Solidarity, praised the mobilization of WGO officials and staff. "Each of us must fight to ensure that no Burkinabe dies from lack of blood. Giving blood gives a sick person a chance to live," he stated.
Collection organizers noted that the need for blood products increases during the rainy season, particularly due to cases of malaria which significantly affect children and pregnant women. Through this initiative, Wahgnion Gold Operations aims to contribute to strengthening blood reserves for the benefit of health facilities and populations in the region.
