Loroum: The High Commissioner of Loroum Province, Djibril Bassol©, also president of the Titao district council, chaired an advocacy workshop with administrative and community leaders to discuss the mass treatment campaign against schistosomiasis.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting aimed to mobilize communities to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), particularly schistosomiasis, which has been increasing. The mass treatment campaign is scheduled to take place from May 5 to 10, 2025. High Commissioner Bassol© gathered representatives of associations, heads of technical services, customary and religious leaders, and heads of women’s organizations at the Titao health district headquarters.
Community leaders committed to promoting the campaign within their communities to ensure widespread participation. Aminata Porgo, the provincial women’s coordinator for Loroum, specifically appealed to parents to encourage their children to take the necessary medication, highlighting the severe and long-term impacts of schistosomiasis.
Saidou Niampa, president of the provincial council of civil society organizations, urged the community to actively participate in the campaign. He emphasized the need for member associations to focus on informing and raising awareness among the population.
Furthermore, High Commissioner Bassol© encouraged leaders to motivate their communities, expressing hope that the information shared with opinion leaders would lead to strong community mobilization for the upcoming campaign.
