Loroum: The High Commissioner of the province of Loroum, Djibril Bassolé, chaired the first session of the provincial framework for epidemic management of the health district of Titao on Thursday, November 14, 2024. This session aimed to enhance coordination in combating epidemic diseases, with a particular focus on dengue fever, which has seen a resurgence in the area.
According to Burkina Information Agency, stakeholders gathered to craft strategies to mitigate the impact of dengue fever. The session facilitated discussions on several key initiatives, including advocating for vaccination days that incorporate vitamin A supplementation and polio prevention efforts. Members of the crisis management committee were briefed on managing rumors surrounding vaccination campaigns. The session also served to evaluate the status of epidemic diseases in Burkina Faso and reiterate guidelines for combating dengue.
A significant aspect of the meeting was the emphasis on mobilizing provincial resources for a comprehensiv
e, multi-sectoral approach to fighting epidemic-prone diseases. Participants, including CPGE members, provided inputs and recommendations to bolster dengue prevention efforts. Dr. Raphaël Zoundi, the district’s chief physician, highlighted the need to convey critical messages within the limited resources available, despite the plan for four annual epidemic management sessions.
High Commissioner Djibril Bassolé noted the session’s diverse attendance, which included traditional and religious leaders, municipal officials, representatives from technical services and health personnel, the media, and community leaders. The challenging security situation in Loroum has significantly affected the health sector, yet reconquest operations by defense and security forces have enabled the development of initiatives aimed at ensuring public health.
