Bobo-Dioulasso: The National Federation of Kôkô Dunda Actors (FENAKOD) held a press briefing on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Bobo-Dioulasso to express its gratitude to the government for choosing the kôkô dunda loincloth as the official loincloth for International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025. It also called for energetic measures to combat counterfeiting. The new FENAKOD office, elected on October 30 and headed by Maminata Sanon, took this opportunity to welcome this decision.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the patterns and colours of the kôkô dunda loincloth for this edition were designed based on current challenges. Maminata Sanon, the president, explained that military green (or military khaki) pays tribute to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), red honors the martyrs who fell for the homeland, while the white background symbolizes the quest for peace.
Maminata Sanon called for sacred union and commitment from all stakeholders in the sector in order to fully embrace this local motif and cele
brate Burkinabe women, who will be highlighted during this event. However, the president highlighted the challenges facing the kôkô dunda loincloth, particularly counterfeiting.
She announced that FENAKOD, with the support of the anti-fraud brigade, will intensify its actions to eradicate this scourge. “After three years of awareness raising, the time has come to move on to repression. From January 2025, FENAKOD, in collaboration with the brigade, will track down the perpetrators of this practice which is harmful to the development of kôkô dunda,” Ms. Sanon declared firmly.
The president also recalled that the kôkô dunda, with its 400 patterns, is one of the five flagship products protected by intellectual property through a label.
