Local Radio Stations Empower Women to Foster Peace and Unity

Houet: Local radio stations mobilize communities to promote peace: Radio stations Notre Dame de Kaya, Zama FM, Manegda, and Basn©r© de Tougouri organized the first edition of Community Days on June 19 and 20, 2026, in Kaya to promote social cohesion and preserve peace.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this edition was placed under the theme: "Role and contribution of women in the prevention of violence and the building of peace." During these days, participants attended a panel dedicated to the crucial role of women in preventing violence, social mediation, and building a peaceful environment, particularly in the context of the return of internally displaced persons to their places of origin.

The panel was co-hosted by the provincial director of Family and Solidarity of Sandbondtenga, Abdoulaye Bamogo, and the founder of the Ziniar© Women's Museum, Juliette Kongo. This first edition mobilized communities living in the coverage areas of the organizing radio stations and highlighted the role of women as peace actors.

The culmination of these days was marked by a community exhibition that brought together more than twenty communities from various localities in the region. They showcased their cultural heritage through traditional dances, authentic costumes, and local dishes, illustrating the richness of their identity and cultural legacy.

The authorities of the province of Sandbondtenga, those of the commune of Kaya, as well as community leaders, reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and empowering women, with a view to consolidating living together. They unanimously recognized that cultural diversity represents an opportunity to strengthen social cohesion and peace in the Kouls© region and in Burkina Faso.

They also invited every citizen to actively participate in peacebuilding by making cultural diversity a lever for bringing communities closer together. The director of Radio Notre Dame de Kaya, Father Kouka Alexis Ou©draogo, also president of the organizing committee, stressed that, just as the rainbow draws its beauty from the diversity of its colors, the differences between people constitute a richness rather than an obstacle to unity and communion.
