Ouagadougou: Local leaders in the commune of Tougo, located in the province of Zondoma, participated in an awareness session aimed at promoting citizenship and community engagement. This session was organized by the Yaadga Regional Directorate of Human Rights on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was spearheaded by Sadou Sourabi©, the Regional Director of Human Rights in Yaadga. Sourabi© emphasized that the activity is a testament to the commitment of human rights services to bolster the capacities of local stakeholders, with the aim of nurturing active and responsible citizenship.

The session was chaired by Boureima Souley, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Tougo municipality. The meeting featured two main presentations. The first presentation, led by Amadou Maga, Head of the Human Rights Department at the Yaadga Regional Directorate, dealt with "Citizen Participation: Definition, Mechanisms, and Challenges." Maga underscored the significance of citizen involvement in public affairs and local development efforts, urging residents to comprehend their rights and responsibilities for effective community contribution.

The second presentation was delivered by Soumala Savadogo, head of the Citizenship and Peace Promotion Department at the Yaadga Regional Directorate. Savadogo highlighted the critical role of community leaders in citizen mobilization and local development, noting their importance in promoting social cohesion. He stressed that local development is unattainable without the proactive involvement of communities, encouraging officials to embrace their intermediary role between communities and public institutions.

In conclusion, the president of the special delegation of Tougo, Boureima Souley, expressed appreciation for the initiative, encouraging participants to apply the knowledge gained to support the commune's development efforts. This activity is part of a broader effort to promote peace, social cohesion, and citizen participation in the communes of Tougo, Kalsaka in Yatenga, Gomponsom, and Arboll© in Passor©.
