L©o Health District Celebrates Health Worker Excellence and Promotes Sovereignty

Sissili: The L©o health district celebrated the '72 Hours of the Sissili Health Worker' from February 11 to 13, 2026. Under the theme of endogenous health financing and health sovereignty, the 2026 edition featured social and sporting activities, as well as recognition of the province's most deserving individuals.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the theme chosen for this edition, "Endogenous financing of health and affirmation of health sovereignty: mobilizing actors for a high-performing and sustainable health system", was echoed in the speeches and activities throughout the event. The celebration commenced on February 11, 2026, with a flag-raising ceremony and a cleanup operation at the Medical Center with Surgical Unit in L©o.

The highlight of the celebration on February 12 included a popular cross-country race, a maracana football match, and a mobile clinic offering free screenings for hepatitis, HIV, and women's cancers. The event also featured open days at the Health and Social Promotion Center of sector 3, the inauguration of a new maternity ward, and the operationalization of the Boura medical center.

An awards ceremony followed by a dance party marked the conclusion of the event on February 13, 2026. A total of 41 health workers from 36 health facilities and 5 care units received letters of congratulations and financial rewards. Additionally, 20 individuals and partner organizations were recognized for their support of the provincial health system.

The Chief Medical Officer of the district provided a progress report for 2025, noting achievements such as 76,560 women accompanied in prenatal consultations, 15,792 deliveries, and 441,005 patients treated. He highlighted challenges like aging infrastructure, staff shortages, and equipment wear and tear, while honoring deceased colleagues, including Mr. Sylvain Kabor©.

Event sponsor Albert Tiendr©b©ogo, CEO of "Eau Dieu Merci", emphasized his commitment to healthcare improvement. High Commissioner T©wend© Isaac Sia underscored the national importance of health sovereignty, urging staff to maintain discipline and ethics, and assured them of provincial support.

The event also featured artistic performances by local and national stars, concluding with a dance party that strengthened community bonds.
